research Grant Eligibility Criteria
The objective of the AAO research grant program is to promote osteopathic research and provide the finances to initiate osteopathic research projects. The intent is proof-of-concept publications or preliminary data to support funding from larger organizations (American Osteopathic Association [AOA], National Institutes of Health, etc.) to conduct more extensive studies and clinical trials. Similar to the AOA’s eligibility requirements, the principal investigator for each study must be:
- an osteopathic physician (DO), or
- an MD, PhD or other individual holding an equivalent doctoral degree (Applicants from non–AOA-affiliated institutions must have a DO as key personnel on the research team.)
Ineligible applicants:
- medical students, residents, interns and fellows
- investigators conducting research outside of the United States
- investigators conducting research on non-U.S. populations
- principal investigators currently funded by the AAO
