When requesting funding for research from the AAO, a Letter of Intent (1-2 pages) is to be submitted to the AAO’s Executive Director. The Letter of Intent should include the criteria for requesting an AAO grant. This Letter of Intent ensures that a grant application aligns with the AAO’s mission and research focus areas. Please review the list of AAO funding priorities.
Letters of Intent are accepted biannually with submission deadlines of Feb. 1 and Aug. 1.
The Letter of Intent must be submitted on institutional letterhead, and it must include the contact information for the principal investigator (PI). The following items are requested for a research grant:
If the Letter of Intent aligns with the AAO’s funding mission, the PI will be asked to submit a full research proposal by March 15 or Sept. 15.
If the Letter of Intent does not align with the AAO’s funding mission, the PI will be advised of the rationale for that decision.
